As per the constitution of Pakistan, the Ministry of Defense sends the summary of 4 to 6 senior officers of the Army to the PM office. Basically, the Prime Minister then selects the Two lieutenant General and Promotes them to Full Generals.

Retirement of General Bajwa

Gen Bajwa retired on 29 November. Therefore, the PM nominates the most senior Officer Asim Munir as the new Chief of Army staff. After taking command from Bajwa he will lead one of the nuclear armed strong armies.

Syed Asim Munir is the first chief from Mangla officer training. He was a very brilliant cadet and won the Sword of Honour. During his service, he commands the most difficult areas of Pakistan such as Northern areas and Kashmir.

Asim Munir is an apolitical person by nature. Furthermore, he is the only officer who served as DG ISI and DG MI.

Asim Munir also served in KSA as well. Which is also important for Pakistan.  

The big challenge for him is to restore the trust and respect of the Pakistan army in the view of the nation. While he will keep the army aside from the political situations. Furthermore, he must focus on internal corruption and other irregularities in the institution.

According to sources the most favorite candidate for the army chief position is Syed Asim Munir Ahmad Shah[1]. He previously served as DG ISI and DG MI, and currently, he served as Quartermaster General at GHQ.

Introduction of the new Army chief of Pakistan

Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah HI(M) is a three-star rank general serving as a Quartermaster general in the Pakistan Army. He is currently the most senior officer on the list of generals to become the next Army Chief of Pakistan.[1] Syed Asim commanded the XXX Corps (Pakistan) in Gujranwala from 17 June 2019 to 6 October 2021.[2] Faiz Hameed replaces Syed Asim Munir as DG ISI [3] He is also a holder of the Sword of Honour.

Military career of the new Army chief of Pakistan

Syed Asim Munir is from the 17th course of the Officers Training School in Mangla. He joined the Pak army 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment. After the promotion of Asim to 3-star general. Furthermore, He becomes the new DG ISI. He previously served as Director General of Military Intelligence. Furthermore, Asim Munir 2018 won the  Hilal-i-Imtiaz award. While he had earlier served as the commander of the Troops deployed in the Northern Areas of Pakistan.[4][5][6]. Furthermore, Munir joined as a leading officer in Corps Commander of XXX Corps in Gujranwala.[7]

Responsibility of Chief of Army Staff

The COAS is the person who is responsible to make the policies of war after discussing with other senior generals.  Over the army, he exercised overall command power. In addition, it was the general’s duty to preside over any meetings held in the general headquarters as well as the gathering of formation commanders.

  1. Frankly speaking we all Pakistanis love army but these high rank officers lost their credibility in the eyes of most of the Pakistanis specially overseas Pakistanis.
